The tunes of Tony Malaby’s Tamarindo’s latest album, ‘Somos Agua,’ served as a basis for this performance.

In this case, the special bassist, Michael Formanek, replaced the unique William Parker, an integrant member of the original formation, fact that didn’t change the reverberating and asymmetric cadences of Malaby’s kinetic compositions, which on the contrary, gained a new perspective.

With the restive Nasheet Waits casting his drumming spells, and the sometimes-fiery, sometimes-graceful improvisations by Malaby, the concert evolved with a laudable dexterity.
