Ben Monder is a guitar monster, whose name pops up in my mind every time I think of contemporary jazz guitar.
To celebrate the release of his new album, ‘Amorphae’, which counts with the legendary drummers Paul Motian (already deceased) and Andrew Cyrille, he reunites with the latter, a prevailing representative of the free-jazz panorama.

Weaved through cerebral layers and cadences, Monder's music can be described as ethereal, hypnotic, richly textured and deeply intricate, becoming sometimes difficult to absorb.

Mr. Cyrille, at the age of 76, never let the guitarist down, propelling the tunes with his irregular beats and a very own understanding of the grandiose chords and nimble fingerstyling techniques that kept sprouting from Monder's guitar.
Tough yet open-minded, the concert was a unique experience.
