Two felines in the art of playing jazz, the prominent guitarist, Peter Bernstein, and the outstanding bass player, Reuben Rogers, gathered on Mezzrow’s small stage to delight us with a set of well-chosen standards. The performance emphasized some of the most recognizable tunes from the inimitable pianist Thelonious Monk, which were explored with vision, perspective, and a gratifying good taste.

The appealing, soulful sound of the duo was capable of surprising through escalating chord progressions, groovy bass lines, and admirable solos.
